Hi! I’m Cosmo. Let’s get ready for first grade together!
Ready for the Next Grade
Our program is about getting each child ready for the next grade level. A readiness check shows us early whether a child is starting to fall behind — because once a child falls behind, the struggle can follow them from grade to grade.
We then build a plan and work it as a team: your child’s teacher, you as the parent, and J & D as the specialists, until your child is on grade level. Everything is individualized to your child.
Readiness Checklist
A child who is ready for first grade usually:
- ★ Recognizes letters and the sounds they make
- ★ Listens to a story and retells it in order — first, next, last
- ★ Hears the beginning sounds in words and matches them to pictures
- ★ Plays with sounds: rhymes, blends and breaks apart simple words
- ★ Follows two- and three-step directions
- ★ Pays attention during a short activity and finishes it
- ★ Shares ideas in full sentences and asks questions
- ★ Enjoys books and handles them like a reader
